Jeremy Friedman is Co-Founder and CEO of Schoology, the nation’s leading K-12 learning management and assessment platform. Jeremy co-founded Schoology alongside Bill Kindler, Ryan Hwang and Tim Trinidad while earning his BA in Economics at Washington University in St. Louis. Since Schoology’s inception, Jeremy and the other founders have believed that education technology should improve the learning experience and enable educators in K-12 schools and districts to achieve their own vision of successful personalized learning. After more than a decade as CEO, today Jeremy focuses on managing the company’s growth strategy, working closely with customers to understand requirements and opportunities for innovation, and guiding Schoology’s product vision to ensure that users and customers are able to continue advancing what is possible in education.

Justin Serrano

President

Justin Serrano brings nearly twenty-five years of operating experience to his role as Schoology’s President. He spent 17 years at Kaplan Test Prep in a variety of leadership roles, and ultimately served as President of K12 and College Prep. He then joined the private equity firm Weld North, and later, through their acquisition of Generation Ready, led the company as CEO. Most recently, he served as Customer Success Officer for Performance Matters, which was acquired by PeopleAdmin. Justin earned a Bachelor of Science in Human Services from Cornell and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Frank Garafalo

Frank Garafalo joined Schoology in 2018 and manages all of the company’s administrative operations including accounting, finance, human resources, legal, and corporate IT. Previously he held senior leadership roles at Certara where he was Chief Accounting Officer, Barnes & Noble where he was CFO for the B&N Digital segment, and Kaplan Test Prep where he served as Group Controller. Frank earned a BS in Finance from Pennsylvania State University and an MBA with an accounting concentration from the University of Phoenix. Frank is a New Jersey Certified Public Accountant. He is also a Certified Financial Manager and a Certified Management Accountant with the Institute of Management Accountants.

Ivan joined Schoology as EVP of Marketing in 2017. He is responsible for developing the Schoology brand, as well as driving awareness and demand for the Schoology platform. Previous to joining Schoology Ivan held senior marketing leadership roles at TIBCO, DataSynapse, IONA and other high-tech infrastructure software companies. Ivan earned a BS in Computer Science and Mathematics from Binghamton University.

Jill Hedrick

Jill Hedrick is the Executive Vice President of Sales, responsible for new business and go-to-market for Schoology’s market-leading K-12 learning management and assessment platform. Jill brings 25 years of experience in management, sales and business development including leadership positions with K-12 market leaders TurnItIn and NWEA. Hedrick comes to Schoology with 25 years of experience in sales and business development, including ten in the EdTech industry. Across her career she has been successful at building and leading high-performing, customer-focused sales teams and managing sales and business development efforts. Jill earned a bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Economics from the University of Colorado Boulder and is a graduate of the Executive Leadership Program at Notre Dame’s Mendoza College of Business.

Bill is a Co-Founder of Schoology and the current EVP of Strategy where he works across the organization to facilitate key business objectives. He is responsible for the development and execution of the company’s partner ecosystem strategy, ensuring best-in-class edtech tools and services provide value to Schoology’s customer base of nearly 2,000 enterprise school districts. Since founding Schoology alongside Jeremy, Tim, and Ryan, Bill has been an integral part of the company’s growth story. At various times in the past ten years Bill has led sales, business development, implementation, professional development, and support. Bill earned a BA from Colgate University.

Joel Hames

Joel Hames

VP, Product

Joel leads Schoology’s product team, which includes product management and design. He is a veteran product leader who has delivered high quality, thoughtful, and impactful education software. Prior to joining Schoology, he was VP of Product for both PowerSchool and SunGard K-12, where he led teams focused on developing best-in-class SIS, ERP, analytics, and related education software platforms. Before becoming a product leader, he spent over 16 years as an education technology leader in K-12 school districts, with a focus on the impact of technology in the classroom. Joel earned a BA degree in Psychology from UC Irvine, and a Master's of Education from the University of Illinois.

Alberto Silveira

Alberto Silveira

VP, Software Engineering

Alberto leads Schoology's engineering organization, including software engineering, quality engineering, solutions engineering, and product operations. He is a versatile engineering leader with proven success in delivering software solutions at scale. Alberto brings 17 years of experience building world-class software architecture and engineering organizations that rapidly innovate and solve complex challenges. Previously, he was senior director of engineering at OnDeck, and a technology leader at Amplify Access and Kaplan, guiding teams to collaborate efficiently to solve significant traffic and data volume challenges in transaction-intensive operations. Alberto earned a BS degree with honors in Computer Science at Universidade do Vale do Itajai in Brazil and a Master’s in Business Administration at Kaplan University.
