American Association of School Librarians Pick Schoology as Best for Managing Classrooms

Schoology Apps Best for Mobile 1:1 Learning

NEW YORK – August 15, 2013 — Dynamic learning is taking place in classrooms where students are using the Schoology learning management system, recently selected by the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) for having some of the best learning apps in K-12 education. The Schoology mobile apps are native apps with specific functionality maximizing how tablets and other mobile devices are used for teaching and learning.

The shift toward using personal devices or school-distributed technology in today's classroom is called 1:1 learning, meaning that each student has a tablet, smartphone or computer for multimedia instructional resources, to complete assignments, to explore the Internet and to collaborate with peers.

1:1 learning offers many opportunities to enhance student learning, but managing these classrooms can be difficult without the right tools. To better recognize the need for high-quality programs to assist teachers with managing today's dynamic and progressive classrooms, this year the AASL held its first annual awards to pick the Best Apps for Teaching & Learning. The AASL picked Schoology's mobile apps, available on iOS, Android™ and Kindle Fire devices, as among the best applications for organizing and managing the 21st-century classroom.

The AASL states that the Best Apps for Teaching & Learning facilitate inquiry-based 21st-century teaching and learning and also foster innovation, creativity and active collaboration.

"Teachers can be assured that the apps selected by the committee have stood up to a rigorous evaluation process and have been 'road-tested' by highly qualified school librarians," said AASL President, Susan Ballard. "In their inaugural year, the committee has done an exceptional job of identifying outstanding resources that can be used to inform instruction, develop enthusiastic, engaged students and produce learning dividends."

"Mobile apps like Schoology's are critical to building the learning environment best suited for today's social learners," said Jeremy Friedman, Schoology's CEO. "This award from the American Association of School Librarians is significant because it recognizes that Schoology's mobile apps provide the most robust course management and active, personalized learning that both educators and students care about on the devices they want to use—their tablets and smartphones."

This award follows another recent win by Schoology: Best K-12 Enterprise Solution in the 2013 SIIA CODiE Awards.
