Let’s Congratulate the Schoology NEXT 2018 Award Winners

Posted in Community | August 01, 2018

Each year at Schoology NEXT, we recognize a select few that show us they have gone above and beyond in the area of advancing what’s possible in education in their classroom, school, or district. The winners are then announced during the Day 3 Keynote Presentation. This ceremony provides a unique opportunity to see the importance of the Schoology Community and how one individual can make a huge impact in their district or school, motivating others to do the same.

This year’s awards ceremony was hosted by Schoology's Education Solutions Director, Adam Larson. Adam had the opportunity to get to know the winners personally beforehand, learning about their accomplishments and experiences. This made for an extremely authentic and heartfelt moment on stage between him and the winners.

This year, we had four awards:

  • Educator of the Year
  • Administrator of the Year
  • District of the Year
  • Ambassador of the Year

We received an overwhelming amount of amazing submissions, all addressing the question of “How have you or your institution advanced what's possible with Schoology?" Winners were chosen based on various criteria including: being able to demonstrate meaningful, measurable results, and their knowledgeable and/or innovative use of Schoology. After thoroughly reviewing each submission, we carefully selected the winners, who were all more than deserving of these awards.

Let’s Meet The Winners

Educator of the Year

Jesse Buetow

4th & 5th Split Grade Classroom Teacher at Randolph Heights Elementary, Saint Paul Public Schools in Minnesota

Jesse has spent the past 4 years working on creating a student centered classroom focused on “choice, voice, comfort, and the purposeful integration of technology.” He wanted to give students a level of control and when Jesse found Schoology, he was able to accomplish this. His students are now completely self-paced and showing significant improvement in proficiency on pre-tests.

Administrator of the Year

Danielle Patterson

Technology Integration Facilitator at Copperas Cove ISD in Texas

Danielle has been advancing what’s possible in education in many ways. She not only is responsible for helping everyone in her district with their instructional technology needs, but she uses Schoology to build Professional Development. In her submission video, she was even called the “district guru” by one of her colleagues!

District of the Year

Downingtown Area School District

Accepting on behalf of Downingtown Area School District: Denise Shovlin, English Teacher and Kristie Burk, Coordinator of Cyber and Blended Learning

Downingtown Area School District has been using Schoology in grades 3-12 for almost six years. From using Schoology for all of their Professional Development to digital citizenship training, Kristie and Denise are both helping advance what’s possible in their district. They highlighted the sense of community and collaboration that Schoology has fostered as “the best thing to come out of the 2017-2018 school year.”

Ambassador of the Year

Philip Pulley

Teacher at Fieldcrest CUSD #6 in Illinois

Phil was recognized by his peers for his amazing contributions to the Schoology community. In the 11th hour, we decided to switch things up and give other ambassadors 24 hours to nominate a fellow Ambassador that they thought truly deserved this award. Within only a few hours, we received a ton of nominations. In the end, around 90% were for Phil, each with supportive reasoning and some with specific examples of resources Phil has so generously shared with other members of the community.

Congrats to all of the 2018 Schoology NEXT Award Winners and thank you to everyone who applied!
