Here are Two New Features to Make Your Lives a Little Bit Easier: Automated Imports and Test/Quiz Autosave

Posted in Schoology | August 09, 2013

Automation has transformed how we interact with the world. From SmartDrive keeping drivers safe to your phone auto-correcting spelling errors, automation enables us to do things easier, faster, and more accurately than ever before.

With that in mind, here's two new features to make your lives a little bit easier:

Automated Imports of CSV Files

This one's for all of you system administrators out there keeping blended learning going on the back end. You now won't have to manually upload CSV files any longer. We have completely automated the process to save you time and keep everything running smoothly.

If your school, district, or university uses an SFTP server, or plans to in the future, you can enable Schoology to automatically pull data from it on a timed-basis.

To set it up, go to your new Auto Imports tab of your Import page. From here you can configure this integration once and then sit back as your Users, Courses, and Course Enrollments are retrieved from your SFTP server(s), imported, and organized by Schoology.

You can also designate how often you want this to happen:

  • Every 12 Hours
  • Once a Day
  • Once a Week
  • Once a Month

Pretty cool, right?

Test and Quiz Autosave

Isn't it the worst when you're right in the middle of something important, and your computer or internet goes kaput? When this happens to a student in the midst of an important test, as you may already know, the stress and frustration piles up quickly. But with our new Test/Quiz Autosave, all those worries fly right out the window.

Now when students are taking tests or quizzes, their progress will be automatically saved so they can easily jump back into it. That is if the assessment is resumable (an option in the test/quiz settings). If it is not, you can make it resumable for them.

You can also now make assessments that are timed and resumable. If the student loses internet connectivity in this scenario, the clock will keep ticking and may run out by the time they are able to continue, resulting in an auto-submission.

Under the Results tab of your test or quiz, you can select View Attempts on the right. From there you can select the Gear icon on the right and choose Unsubmit. This will allow the student to retake the assessment, though a time limit cannot be set.

Those are our new features for this week. Stay tuned, because as you may know already, more are soon to come.
