Congratulations to our 2019 #SchoologyNEXT Award Winners!
Each year at Schoology NEXT, we recognize a select few that show us they have gone above and beyond in the area of advancing what’s possible in education in their classroom, school, or district. The winners are then announced during the Day 3 Keynote Presentation. This ceremony provides a unique opportunity to see the importance of the Schoology Community and how one individual can make a huge impact in their district or school, motivating others to do the same.
In case you missed it, follow us on Twitter to see all of the awesome snapshots from the event.
This year’s awards ceremony was hosted by Schoology's EVP of Marketing, Ivan Casanova. Ivan spoke about how valuable advocacy is and how our community has led the charge on so many incredible accomplishments. He then took some time on stage to speak with each of the winners about their various experiences in the edtech world and what their day to day lives are like in and out of the classroom.
The four award categories were:
- Educator of the Year
- Administrator of the Year
- District of the Year
- Ambassador of the Year
We received an overwhelming amount of amazing submissions, all addressing the question of “How have you or your institution advanced what's possible with Schoology?" Winners were chosen based on various criteria including: being able to demonstrate meaningful, measurable results, and their knowledgeable and/or innovative use of Schoology. You were also able to nominate a fellow colleague for an award, which is actually how we found our Administrator of the Year. After thoroughly reviewing each submission, we carefully selected the winners, who were all more than deserving of these awards.
Meet The Winners
Educator of the Year
Band Director at School District of Monroe, WI
Brian has spent the past few years working to improve the delivery of his content through Schoology. This year, he was focused on aligning all of his assignments to learning targets for his sixth grade band class. Some of the awesome things Brian uses Schoology for are: creating discussion posts with embedded YouTube videos and having students submit recordings of themselves performing music from their method book.
Administrator of the Year
Achievement Specialist for Personalized Learning at Frederick County Public Schools, MD
Amy was actually nominated by her colleague, Eric Haines, for this award! Amy has taken on the role as project lead for her district's implementation of Schoology. Eric highlighted the fact that Amy is the type of leader who is always finding ways to advance what's possible and has established an ongoing working relationship with Schoology staff to push the envelope on what's possible for Competency-Based Education and the development of mastery tracking.
District of the Year
White Plains Public Schools
Accepting on behalf of White Plains Public Schools: Jherlyn Lopez (Teacher/District Trainer), Lucy Roman (Coordinator of Instructional Technology), and Ron Velez (Director of Technology)
Schoology remains at the center of the learning for White Plains Public Schools, allowing teachers to better manage their time and energy in order to continue educating students with the quality they deserve. The district has changed in significant and positive ways, demonstrating what is possible with Schoology, and how it connects students and staff in their mission to prepare students for the 21st century.
Ambassador of the Year
Instructional Technology Professional Development Specialist at Broome-Delaware-Tioga BOCES, DE
Rick was recognized by his peers for his contribution not only to the Schoology Ambassador Program, but the community as a whole. We asked Ambassadors to nominate someone who they thought deserved this award, and Rick Bray received the most nominations! Whether it is his general positivity or chiming in on Twitter, educator groups, and sharing resources, Rick is a member of the community that everyone feels they can count on!
Congrats to all of the 2019 Schoology NEXT Award Winners and thank you to everyone who applied!
