Brilliant Awards for Brilliant People: Winners of the Schoology NEXT 2014 Awards

The first day of Schoology NEXT 2014 has come to a close, and it could not have ended on a more exciting note. Tonight we celebrated the amazing work of members of our community at the very first Schoology NEXT Awards!

Our community is full of educational innovators, trail blazers, and heroes. All nominees for this year’s awards are doing amazing work in the lives of their students and their colleagues. You can imagine how challenging it was to choose only a few.

So without further ado, these are the winners of the first Schoology NEXT Awards!

Educator of the Year

The Schoology NEXT Educator of the Year Award goes to free or enterprise Schoology educators who exemplify someone working on the front lines with students, utilizing Schoology in an innovative way (global collaboration, integrating content, boosting student engagement, working with limited resources, etc.)

Carole Morbitzer

Math Teacher, Hamilton Township High School

  Get to know Carole 

  • She was recognized as 2013 Ohio Teacher of the Year

 

  • Carole is known for transforming reluctant learners into eager ones

 

  • She's a leader in integrating student-focused technologies into her math classes

Chris Aviles

English Teacher, Barnegat High School

 

 

 

 

Get to know Chris

  • Working with limited resources in a district affected by Hurricane Sandy, Chris refurbished old computers set to be trashed to give his class computers to use.

 

  • He's a school leader innovating with advanced gamification, self-paced mastery, BYOD, and flipped learning in his classroom.

 

Schoology Ambassador of the Year

The Schoology NEXT Ambassador of the Year Awards goes to Schoology Ambassadors who are active, innovative, and enthusiastic advocates for Schoology online, within their school, and at events.

Keith Sorensen

Technology Coordinator, Fremd High School

  Get to know Keith

  • He finds innovative ways to make professional development and training personalized, gamified, and peer-led.

 

  • Keith contributes to District 211's 1:1 rollout success

 

  • He's an advocate of digital learning and Schoology at events, in Schoology Groups, social media, and his blog: keithosorensen.blogspot.com

Bob Schuetz

Technology Coordinator, Palatine High School

  Get to know Bob

  • Bob works to find innovative ways to make professional development and training personalized, gamified, and peer-led.

 

  • He's a leader advocating lifelong, collaborative learning and supporting his personal learning network (PLN).

 

District of the Year

The Schoology NEXT District of the Year Award goes to a Schoology Enterprise district that has successfully implemented Schoology in a transformative or innovative way to the culture of the district for students, educators, parents, and administrators.

Cherry Creek Schools

Colorado

Get to know Cherry Creek Schools

  • They invested in rigorous technology integration, staff, and training

 

  • They successfully rolled out an ambitious 18,000+ Chromebook initiative in 2013-2014 school year

 

  • They've made significant strides in district-wide Schoology adoption. From December 2013-March 2014 alone, Cherry Creek has had:
    • almost 9,000,000 page views
    • over 147,000 comments posted
    • 66,500 files uploaded
