Attention Android Users: Our Mobile Resource Apps Will Change Your Life

Posted in Schoology | March 11, 2014

Mobile technologies have condensed our whole digital world into a pocket-sized gadget that was science fiction a few decades ago. When every tool you need can rest comfortably in the palm of your hand, it's hard to think that it could get any better.

Well, it can and it has.

Today is the day that Schoology's Android app takes the simplicity and convenience of mobile integration to the next level. Our Android app v2.5 comes equipped with Resource Apps for Google Drive, Dropbox, Evernote, and Khan Academy!

What Are Resource Apps?

Resource Apps are access points to third-party applications. In other words, they centralize all your content right into your Schoology Resources so you can use it on the fly without ever leaving the Schoology app.

In fact, you can even edit your third-party content right from Schoology. For example, if you change the title of one of your Google Docs using our Google Drive App, the changes will appear in both Schoology and Google Drive. Amazing right?

Here's how you can get started:

  1. Go to your Schoology Resources on your Android device.
  2. Select Resource Apps and Install the ones you want to use.
  3. Once installed, open one of the apps and enter your login credentials.

Quick and easy!

How Do I Use Resource Apps?

Content from Google Drive, Evernote, Dropbox, and Khan Academy will now act the same way as any other mobile Schoology resource. That means you can attach it to update posts, assignments, discussions, and events. When asked what you want to attach, choose Resources, then Resource Apps, and so on.

Keep in mind that when you do, you are attaching a copy of the document, not the original. That means if you edit the original, you will not see those changes reflected in the copies that are attached to materials.

And because this content exists simultaneously outside of Schoology, you can also provide your students with links to the desired content. This may require altering your third-party permission settings.

How Can Students Use Resource Apps?

Students can submit their assignments directly from their Resource Apps, just as they can any native Schoology resource. They also have the ability to attach their third-party content to any update and discussion posts they create.

One game-changing aspect of mobile Resource Apps is the fact that students can work on Google Drive, Evernote, and Dropbox offline. So even if they don't have access to the internet, they can still do their homework and then submit it once they are connected.

That's the big new feature of our Android v2.5 app. We have also made it smoother and more stable than ever before, but Resource Apps, in my opinion, totally takes the cake.

Now it's your turn. Take a second, download our new app, and start using your resources like never before!
